Haitian Folklore Dance is a unique synthesis of expression, deeply rooted in a multicultural past of African, Indian, Spanish, French and modern influences. In Haitian culture, the drum plays an instrumental role in the music; in fact it is the most important instrument in the culture. The drum is the soul of the music, which originated in Africa. In order to perform the dance properly, you must always have bare feet. In the haitian culture it is beleived that dancing in bare feet is a way to keep in touch with the ground, in which the spirits of our African ancestors live. Dress code: choice of sweat pants, leggings, leotards, African wraps and/or sarongs. Instructor: Wilmayer Marcelin, President of Fantezi Kreyol Dance Company Inc.
