Meet the Founder

Wilmayer Marcelin was born and raised in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. It was there that he completed his education, majoring in statistics and economics.  In the US, Mr. Marcelin was awarded two (2) associate degrees (one in Science, another one in Arts). Mr. Marcelin is also a registered Radiologic Technologist.

– Mr. Marcelin pursues his education at Northeastern University.

A professional dancer and vocalist, Mr. Marcelin was a member of La Chorale Nationale d’Haiti, conducted by Major Iphares Blain (with l’Ochestre Philharmonique Saint-Trinity). He was also a member of the Ayiti Ginen Dance Troupe, founded by Prof. Max Benoit , directed and choreographed by Fritz Jolicoeur. Mr. Marcelin studied dance at Viviane Gauthier’s Dance and Physical Fitness School, where he was awarded a certificate in physical fitness and dance. He was the founding director of Bwa Cayiman Dance Troupe.

Mr. Marcelin’s performance credits include: member of Viviane Gauthier’s dance company and of La Chorale du Theatre National d’Haiti (conducted by Fritz Jolicoeur); guest performer, Michelle Benjamin’s Dance School; principal actor/ dancer, in the role of “Doreus”, Le Ballet Folklorique d’Haiti (BFH), conducted by Nicole Lumarque and Raoul Denis Jr, (cf. Le Nouvelliste, 04/28/94).

In the U.S., Mr. Marcelin performed at the State House for the Association of Haitian Artists in Massachusetts. He played a major role in Kenembu Brazil Mestizo, directed and choreogrphed by Marlene Silva. He also taught workshops at the DeCordova Museum School of Art in Lincoln, Massachusetts (cf.Boston Sunday Globe, 7/30/95)

In 1999, the Association of Haitian Women (Boston) recognized Mr. Marcelin for his devotion to Ayiti Demen Dance Troupe, for which he was choreographer. He was also guest choreographer for Yanvalou Dance Troupe at Wellesley College in Wellesley and guest artist (dancer, choreographer) for MITCAN at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge (Kera Washington, director).  Mr. Marcelin taught the “Afro-Haitian dance class” at The Dance Complex (Cambridge, MA) from 1996 through 2007. In 2006 and 2007, he also taught master dance classes at the events of ” Dance across the City Day” at The City Performing Arts Center (Boston, MA), formerly known as The Wang Center for the performing Arts.  In both Nov.  2009 and Nov. 2010, Mr. Marcelin won the Ray of Hope Award, Cultural Conservationist, for his contribution to childen in Haiti.  

Mr. Marcelin was among local professionals of color,who were recently honored with YMCA Black Achievers Awards at the 32nd Annual Awards Gala held in January 31, 2007 at the Boston Marriott Copley Place.
Mr. Marcelin was recognized by his employer based on a demonstrated history of achievement in the workplace and a commitment to voluntary service in the community on behalf of youth.

Mr. Marcelin is a professional who truly loves his work. He has devoted many years to teaching young artists. He performs Haitian folkloric dance with spirit, energy and grace, bringing audiences to new levels understanding about the beauty and complexity of Haitian culture. Through Mr. Marcelin’s dedication and inspiration, Fantezi Kreyol Dance Company, for which he is founder and President, will complete his vision.
